Circumcise your heart

S– Jeremiah 9:25 ”Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will punish all those who are circumcised merely in the flesh”
O– Every Jewish male was circumcised on the 8th day of their life as part of the covenant made with God by Abraham. They were all circumcised in the flesh. However, God wants that to be a sign of what is actually happening in our hearts.  Circumcision is an outward mark of God’s covenant on a  man but it means nothing to God if that man’s heart is far from Him. If only done in the flesh, it is worthless to God and at this point in history, God is promising to punish all who are only circumcised in their flesh.
A– One of the definitions of “Circumcise” is “To purify spiritually” (dictionary.com). The old testament is full of outward signs of what God wanted to happen in His people’s hearts. As Christians, God desires that our hearts are pure and devoted to Him. Circumcision of the heart is really a cutting away of the things that weigh us down spiritually. Things such as affection for the ways of the world, desire to sin, laziness and strife. If we are circumcised in our hearts then we are pursuing God with reckless abandon and without regard to this world.  Our desires match His desires. Our ways, are patterned after His ways.  God wants my heart.  Outward signs are fine but God is mostly focused on my heart condition.
P– Lord, thanks for loving me as I am.  Thanks for putting up with me. Help me Lord to have a pure heart and to recklessly pursue you and know you. I love you Jesus!  Amen.
